Cayman Brac is a great for a destination vacation, especially for the family. If you enjoy nature and looking for pure, relaxation…take in the beauty in Cayman Brac. Cayman Brac is the second biggest island in the Cayman Islands. Cayman Brac is 14 square miles and the population is just under 1,300. The majority of residents are from Cayman Brac and unemployment is virtually non-existent. Cayman Brac is one of the safest, if not the most care-free island in the Caribbean.

Cayman Brac Map

Driving around Cayman Brac is easy especially if you are familiar with driving on the left side (same as Grand Cayman). There’s a road on the North side that runs the length of the island (east to west) and a road that runs the length of the South side (running east to west). You’ll also find scooters and bikes available to rent to get around the island.

The main attractions are nature and historical attractions: Climbing, Fishing, Cave explorations, 38 nature tourism, Heritage House, and more. Cayman Brac, like Little Cayman, is home to many diving sites. Most of the resort offer dive packages that include: accommodations, meals, and 2-3 dives a day (Resort Certification is also available). Some popular dives sites are: The Lost City of Atlantis (large, underwater, multi-piece sculpture garden). M.V. Capt. Keith Tibbetts (intentionally prepared and sunk in 1996).

The West End (West End Crossroad) is where the islands’ beachfront properties offer hotel rooms, condominiums, or houses. Many second home owners rent their houses by the week to visitors and there are also a few condominium complexes.

In November 2008, Hurricane Paloma came through Cayman Brac. The island has recently been opened to visitors. There are a number of local establishments specializing in Caymanian and American dishes. There is no downtown, no shopping malls, and no fast food restaurants on the island. This makes for a true experience of the culture.

This blog will be as short and sweet as the island of Little Cayman. Little Cayman is approximately 80 miles northeast of Grand Cayman and 7 miles from Cayman Brac. Little Cayman is the smallest and least developed of the three island in the Cayman Islands. Here, a single road leads to secluded beaches, a handful of properties and some of the best diving the world has to offer.

Map of Little Cayman Island

Snorkeling and diving are among the top activities to do on this serene island. Little Cayman has some of the best diving areas to experience and is a great place to discover for divers of all levels. Little Cayman has about 40 sites that are great for snorkeling. Littlle Cayman has some of the best wall diving.

Here is a list of some of the best diving sites to explore:

1) Bloody Bay Wall – One of the deepest walls in the world that has a vertical drop-off starting at 18 feet and dropping to more than 6,000 feet.

2) Jackson Bay Wall & Reef – Great for shallow and deep diving. East of Bloody Bay and is famous for sighting eagle rays.

3) Sarah’s Set – Sure to see lobsters, channel-clinging crabs, southern stingrays and octopus.

4) Windsock Reef – Right offshore of Little Cayman’s southern shore and is great for shallow diving. Starts at 30 feet, with a depth of approximately 200 feet.

5) Charlie’s Chimneys – Approximately 300 feet deep.

The majority of the resorts are dive resorts that cater to guests that live and breathe diving. Most of these resorts have incorporated a stay package that includes a diving programming. If you are interested in receiving additional information regarding these packages a travel agent at Traveling Bags can assist you. Little Cayman is not only good for diving, there are plenty of activities for the family to enjoy: swimming, nature-trails, biking and above all relaxing.

The Cayman Islands is a clean, safe destination where the water is safe to drink and modern hospitals are available, if you should need one. The Cayman Islands consists of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman. Grand Cayman is the most developed of the three islands and approximately 70 minutes from Miami, Florida.

Grand Cayman is 22 miles long, 8 miles wide, and a population of 40,000 residents with 80 different nationalities.

Grand Cayman Districts

The island is divided into five districts; from west to east they are: West Bay, George Town, Bodden Town, North Side and East End. As in most countries, Caymanians can easily identify from which district someone resides based on the slight variations in their speech.

Seven Mile Beach

Seven Mile Beach

Seven Mile Beach is 5.5 miles long, filled with fine white-powder sand and clear, calm waters. This beach is perfect for relaxing, swimming, and watersports. No matter what your reason is for a vacation, the sunset is a must see to experience. If you decide to visit Grand Cayman during Pirates Week (in Noevember), Turtle Watching is a big event to experience. The majority of the hotels and condominiums are located on Seven Mile Beach.

FUN FACT: No begging, selling, and soliciting is allowed on the streets and beaches in The Cayman Islands.
